A recliner sofa needs to fit your living room twice: once with the seats upright, and again with the footrests extended and backrests reclined. A sofa that fits neatly along a wall can still block the route to the balcony when someone puts their feet up.
Before buying, check the overall size, the full movement of the reclining seats and the space left for everyday use. This guide explains what to measure, what to ask and how to compare the options when shopping online in Singapore.
Start with the sofa’s overall size
Measure the space available across the room for the sofa, including its arms. Then check its depth and height against nearby windows, cabinets and tables. The number of seats does not tell you the overall width or the usable sitting space between the arms.
Our Cove Premium Fabric Recliner Sofa comes in one-, two- and three-seater options. The current product dimension graphic lists:
| Option | Listed overall dimensions | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 1 seater | 98 × 88 × 101 cm | S$429 |
| 2 seater | 154 × 88 × 101 cm | S$699 |
| 3 seater | 187 × 88 × 101 cm | S$899 |
Dimensions above are overall length across the sofa × depth × height, as shown in the listing, and are approximate. The graphic does not specify fully reclined depth or required wall clearance. Do not use the listed 88 cm depth as the space needed to recline. Confirm the operating dimensions for your chosen option before ordering.

Check three different reclining clearances
Behind the backrest
Ask how far the sofa must stand from the wall so that the backrest can travel through its full range. Measure from the point specified by the supplier, and account for skirting boards, curtains and anything projecting from the wall.
There is no single wall gap to apply to every recliner. If a model is described as a wall recliner or wall-hugger, ask for its actual minimum clearance. Cove’s current listing does not state that it is a wall-hugger model.
In front of the footrest
Ask for the maximum projection of the footrest and the full front-to-back space occupied while reclining. Include the movement between upright and fully open positions, not just the final position.
Your coffee table needs to stay outside that movement area. If you will have to move it every time you recline, decide whether that is something you are happy to do daily. Our coffee-table height and reach guide can help you plan how the table works with the seats upright.
Beside the arms and along walking routes
For a manual recliner with a side latch, leave enough room to reach and operate it. A side table or tightly positioned neighbouring chair can obstruct the control even when the sofa itself fits.
Also check what happens when the reclining seats are in use together. Someone should still be able to reach the room’s exit and move along the routes your household needs. Keep children, pets and objects clear of the moving mechanism, following the operating instructions supplied with the sofa.
Test the layout with the recliner open
Once you have the supplier’s clearance measurements, mark the closed sofa footprint and its full reclining area on the floor with removable tape. Add the coffee table and any nearby cabinet doors or drawers.
Use this hypothetical example to see how the space adds up:
| Gap behind the sofa at maximum recline | 10 cm |
|---|---|
| Full reclined depth, from the rearmost backrest to the footrest tip | 160 cm |
| Space reserved beyond the footrest | 60 cm |
| Total distance from the wall | 230 cm |
The 60 cm allowance is simply part of this example, not a recommended walkway standard. Choose a passage width that works for your household. If the supplier gives a wall-to-footrest measurement that already includes the rear gap, do not add that gap twice.
Walk through the taped layout while another person sits where the sofa will be. Check the balcony door, TV-console drawers and the route into the room. This is where a compact recliner can differ from a compact fixed sofa.
Manual or electric: check how it operates
A manual recliner uses a mechanical control and physical movement to change position. Ask how the footrest opens, how the backrest reclines and how much effort is needed to close it. Releasing the latch and returning the seat upright are separate parts of the experience.
An electric recliner uses powered controls. If you are comparing one, confirm its power supply, socket requirements and whether any battery option is included or available. Check how it returns upright during a power interruption; arrangements vary by model.
Cove is listed as a manual fabric recliner with outer side latches. Ask which seats recline in the two- and three-seater versions. A three-seater description does not establish that all three seats have reclining mechanisms.
Look beyond the padded appearance
Overall height is different from seat height. Ask for seat height, usable seat depth and width between the arms if these are important to your comfort. Compare them with a chair or sofa you already find comfortable.
Think about how you sit most often. A deep seat may suit lounging but leave you wanting an extra cushion when sitting upright. Check whether the headrest and backrest arrangement will suit watching television as well as reclining.
Grandeur Furnishings operates online and has no showroom. Request clarification or an operation video if available before ordering, especially if someone in your household needs an easy-to-reach control or a footrest that is straightforward to close.

Confirm upholstery, delivery and after-sales details
For fabric upholstery, ask about the care instructions and whether any covers are removable before planning to wash them. Check your colour selection against the available swatches; room lighting and screens can affect how a shade appears. If you are still comparing upholstery types, read our fabric and half-leather sofa guide.
The Cove listing currently states a made-to-order delivery lead time of 2–4 weeks and asks customers to specify their colour at checkout or by message after ordering. Confirm the current schedule and colour availability before placing the order.
Measure the delivery route as well as the living room: door openings, lift access, corridor turns and stair landings. Ask for the largest delivered section or package dimensions and whether the backrests detach for delivery. Do not assume a sofa that fits the room will pass every turn on the way in.
The listing includes free delivery and installation, with stated surcharges for non-lift access and certain locations. Ask for a disposal quote if your old sofa needs removing. Confirm warranty coverage for the frame and reclining mechanism, any exclusions and how servicing is arranged.

Frequently asked questions
Can a recliner sofa go against a wall?
Only if the model’s installation requirements allow that placement. Confirm the specified gap and full movement of the backrest before positioning it.
Can a recliner work in a small HDB living room?
It can, if the fully open layout leaves the access your household needs. Compare the one-, two- and three-seater options using their confirmed operating dimensions, rather than choosing on seat count alone.
Does the Cove recliner need electricity?
Its reclining mechanism is listed as manual, operated using side latches. It is not listed as an electric recliner.
Is the listed sofa depth the fully reclined depth?
Do not assume so. Cove’s dimension graphic lists an 88 cm depth but does not identify a fully reclined measurement. Ask for that measurement separately.
Once you have checked the room with the footrests open, view the Cove recliner options and choose the seating arrangement that fits. Send us your available space and preferred option if you need help confirming the details.
